ENG: A big part of doing an EVS is having to speak another language. To help you with this there are language courses provided for the volunteer. In Brioude local people give a French course for new people.
It’s a very colorful and interesting group of different cultures. Portuguese, Vietnamese, Moroccan, .. About 10 women talking, laughing and trying to understand each other…. a nice kind of chaos!

FR: Faire un SVE c’est aussi apprendre une nouvelle langue. Pour nous aider, il ya des cours de langue. Ici, à Brioude, des bénévoles locale donne un cours de français pour les nouveaux arrivants.
Nous sommes un groupe coloré et intéressant. Des différentes cultures se joindre : Portugaises, Vietnamiens, Marocaines, .. Tous femmes ... parlant, rigolant et essayant de comprendre les uns les autres. Je peux vous garantir il y a parfois une sorte de chaos belle!

ENG: From time to time we make a little excursion with the group. At the last one we went listening to a storyteller. He told us a local legend that is being told in his family for years.

L’histoire de la Bête du Gévaudan !

The story begins in July 1764. The young girl ‘Jeanne Boulat’ becomes the first victim of the beast. This 14 year old girl was family of the storyteller and our French teacher Genevieve. So our sources are definitely reliable!

FR: De temps en temps, nous faisons une petite excursion avec le groupe. Le dernière fois nous sommes allés écouter un conteur. Il nous a raconté une légende locale qui est racontée dans sa famille depuis des années. …

L'histoire de la Bête du Gévaudan!

L'histoire commence avec la jeune fille Jeanne Boulat, la première victime de la bête. On parle Juillet 1764. La jeune fille de 14 ans fait partie de la famille du conteur et notre professeure de français Geneviève. Ainsi, nos sources sont fiables.



ENG: What followed was a fascinating story about symbolism, religion, and mystery. Listings show that in 3 years almost 100 people were killed by the beast … There are different theories about the beast. Was it a wolf, a werewolf, an exotic animal, a punishment from God or maybe a sadistic madman?

FR: Ce qui suivit fut une histoire fascinante sur le symbolisme, la religion et de mystère. Des listes montrent que dans 3 ans près de 100 personnes ont été tuées par la bête ...
Il existe différentes théories sur la bête. Était-ce un loup, un loup-garou, un animal exotique, une punition de Dieu ou peut-être un fou sadique?

ENG: Anyway … just to be sure … keep an eye out when you’re walking in the woods off the Auvergne!

FR: En tous cas une petite conseille … sois prudent quand tu entres les forets d’Auvergne !

Batala Road Trip!

FR: Le 18 mars à 6h le matin Huw m'a cherché à Brioude pour le Batala-Road-Trip en Angleterre et Pays de Galles. Le plan était de visiter les groupes en Grande-Bretagne pour jouer, apprendre et filmer pour le DvD que je suis en train de créer comme mon projet personnel ici en France pour mon service volontaire européen. Après une voyage de 17 heures dans la voiture on est arrivés à Liverpool... On était tout suite invité dans un boite de nuit pour voir un spectacle de Batala Liverpool! C'était génial! Great job Ritchy! Nous avons habité chez Juliana et Ritchy le directeur de Batala Liverpool. Le landemain nous avons joué dans les rues de Liverpool avec eux et le dimanche répétition... Le Lundi nous avons visité le groupe à Lancaster.

ENG: The 18th of march at 6 a.m. I met Huw to travel around England and Wales to visit the other Bands. We played, learned and filmed for a dvd which i'm going to create as my personal project for my european voluntary service. After a 17 hour journey we arrived in Liverpool... Immediately we were invited to visit a Batalashow in a nightclub. It was great! Good job Ritchy! We lived at Julianas and Ritchys place who is the director of Batala Liverpool. The next morning we played a great gig in the streets of Liverpool for the red nose day. On sunday we had a good rehaersal with them, where i learned quite a lot! On monday we went on to Lancaster to visit the Band.



FR: Le mardi nous avons visité le groupe à Bangor en Pays de Galles, un pays superbeau!!!

ENG: On tuesday we visited the band in Bangor in Wales, which is a very butiful cuntry!!!



FR: Portsmouth en Angleterre était notre dernière destination. La j'ai visité un projet pour les jeunes de Batala, j'ai participé dans les répétitions et j'ai filme (Interviews etc...) beaucoup bien sur. Le jeudi soir j'ai prix le train à Londres pour rester la nuit là bas parce que mon avion partait à 7h le landemain...

ENG: Portsmouth in England was our last destination. There I visited a youth-project, played and I made some interviews for the dvd... On thursday night I traveled to London to stay the night at the airport to take the plain in the morning back to france.

Nico, 60 gamins de Marseille dans le Cantal et des Ateliers de Batala Massif!

FR: Le 21 mars, Nico, un bon copain de l'Allemagne est venu pour rendre visite chez moi. On a passé une bonne semaine ensemble en visitant Le Puy en Velay, en grimpant, en visitant et preparant des ateliers et en faisant un rando dans le Cantal pendant 2 jours...

ENG: The 21 march, Nico, a good friend from Germany came to visit me. We had a very nice week together filled with climbing, visiting Le Puy en Velay, Batala and a hiking trip in the Cantal mountains within 2 days...


FR: Jeudi le 24 mars vers 6h on a pris le train à Le Lioran pour commencer notre rando dans le Cantal. Le jour avant j'ai appellé l'office de tourisme pour recevoir des information par rapport la neige et la situation du temps. Ils m'ont dit que c'est trop dangereux et qu'on a besoin de l'equipment professionel... On y est aller quand meme pour voir les conditions. En arrivant on a déjè vu que les conditions n'était pas les meilleures mais assez bien pour le faire! Nous avons loué des raquettes et on est partie! Magique la belle vue sur les crêtes près des nuages!

ENG: Thursday the 24th at 6 a.m. we took the train to Le Lioran to start our hiking-trip in the Cantal mountains. The day before I called the tourist imformation to check the snow and weather situation... They said it would be to dangerous to go in and that professionel equipment is required... We went there anyway to check the conditions. On arrival we have already noticed that the conditions won't be perfect but good enough to go in! We rent snowshoes and climbed up the first mountain to enjoy the great view on the crests!


FR: L'après midi la situations a changé! Bruillard! Beaucoup! On était complettement perdu dans la montage, c'était necessaire de faire des descendres en rappel et de s'accrocher en marchant. Nous avons reussie de descendre dans une foret ou on a installé la tente dans la neige pour attendre d'une changement du temps. La nuit il faisait super froid et on n'a pas beaucoup dormie...

ENG: In the afternoon the whaether changed! Clouds and fog sourrounded us so that we got lost immediately in the mountains. He had to do rappelling and to put on ropes while walking in the deep wet snow to belay! We climbed down in a forest where we installed the tent in the snow to rest for the night and to wait for the wheather to get better! The night was f******g cold so that we didn't sleep a lot...


FR: Le jour prochain il faisait mieux et on a vue qu'on s'est trouvés près du puy Grioux, loin de notre route prevu^^ On a changé les plans pour monter au Plomb du Cantal sur 1800m. La journée etait incroyable, par rapport de la nature et la nuit sur 1800m et !!!super fatigant!!!. La nuit on est restés dans une station-teleski pour descendre le landemain et pour rentrer à Brioude! On a profite du choucher et du lever du soleil dans la montagne au dessus des nuages!

ENG: The next day the sun was shining bride on our faces when we got out of the tent! We found ourselfs next to the Grioux mountain which was far away from the path we planed to take. So we changed the plans to climb up to the Plomb du Cantal on 1800m. The day was unbelievable with regard to the nature, the phisical exertion and the night which we spent in a lift station on top the freezing mountain. We enjoyed the sundown- and rise above the clouds! In the morning we took the first lift down to go back to Brioude!

FR: La meme journée il y avait 60 gamins de Marseille qui sont venue en Auvergne dans le Chateau Alleret, pas lion de Brioude! Le dimanche Huw (President de Batala Massif), Nico et moi sont venue au Chateau pour commencer une semaine avec des Ateliers de Batala pour les jeunes... Les deux premiere jours il y avait des Ateliers pour tout les 60 jeunes, après ils avaient la possibilité de choisir entre Batala et Capoeira. Les trois dernieres jours on avait deux groupes de 30 gamins dans les deux seances intensives. Le vendredi on a cré un spectacle pour montrer ce qu'ils ont appris dans la semaine. En tout c'était une experience MAGIQUE de travailler avec des jeunes sur le sujet "Samba Reagga" et de partager la passion de jouer les tambours et bidons! On a dansé, sauté, rigolé et surtout on a fait beaucoup de bruit! Le final pour les jeunes était de jouer et danse avec Batala Massif près d'un grand feu!

La Bretagne! Seminaire SVE et une voyage celte!

FR: La semaine dernière je suis parti en belle Bretagne pour participer dans un seminaire du service voluntaire européene à Redon pour cinq jours. Pour y aller on voyage 11 heures. Quel bordel le system-sncf en France!
A Rédon il n'y a presque rien... Le seminaire était bien tranquille alors... Le soir on est sortie pour boire un verre dans les bars vides. On a dansé les danses traditionelles bretonnes et on a mangé des crepes! Le groupe était bien sympa! J'ai déjà fait connaissance avec la majorité du group au seminaire à Foix. Ca fait grand plaisir de les avoir vu encore! Pendant la journée on a parler beaucoup des problèmes, le savoir-etre, savoir-faire... Ca m'a donné une impression ou classer mon projet par rapport la qualité etc. Et il faut dire que j'ai vraiment LA CHANCE! Merci a Fred, Jannot, mes copains et copinnes, merci a Musikado, le Café Lecture et Batala Massif!!!

ENG: Last week I went to Brittany to participate in a seminar for the european voluntary service in Redon for five days. Travelling to Redon lasts 11 hours... What a chaotic train system in France!
In Redon the possibilities of entertaining are quite limited, so it was a relaxed and calm seminar with enough time to sleep. In the evenings we went out to drink a beer in one of the empty bars or we danced the traditionel dances and ate crepes! The group was great! I already knew a lot of them from Foix (the first seminar I participated in)... It was a great pleasure to meet them again!
The entire day we used to talk about problems we have,to know how to be and to know know what we can do, what we learn, what we want to learn... It gave me an impression how to classify or to categorize my project and organisation with regard to the quality etc... I can really call me a LUCKY volunteer! Thanks a lot to Fred, Jannot, my friends, Thank you to Musikado, Cafe lecture and Batala Massif!!!


FR: Le vendredi on avait le plan de voyager a Saint Malo, une vielle ville près de la cote atlantique. En fait on était cinq... à la fin je m'a trouvé tout seul avec le desire d'y aller. Je m'en fou j'ai dit et je suis parti!!! Heureusement il y avait Katharina qui a decidé d'ignorer le mainstream et elle est partie avec moi dans une ville piratique, misterieux et romantique! On a trouvé un hotel dans l'acienne ville lequel était moins chere qu'une auberge de jeunesse à l'exterieur de la ville^^
On était à la plage qui se trouve derrière les murs massives de l'ancienne ville! Les rochés et la cote sauvage de la Bretagne m'ont donne une sentiment très misterieux et romantique. On a vu et senti l'ambience celte! Le soir nous avons gouté du rhum dans les pubs dont il y en a beacoup dans les villes de la Bretagne. Avec Kathi j'avais des conversations très très bien et sensé! On a parlé presque tout le temps et on a trouver beaucoup de choses qui nous faisaient penser. Une bonne accompagnatrice!!!

ENG: On friday we had the plan to visit Saint Malo, an ancient city at the cost. Actually we were five... in the end I found myself alone with the desire to go there. I don't care I said and left!!! Fortunately there was Katharina who resisted the mainstream to travel with me to a pirate city full of celtic romance and mystery. We found a cheqp hotel in the center of the ancient city! We walked along the rocky beaches which were next to the massiv walls which surrounded the city. The wild cost of Brittany gave me the great felling of being and living in an other period of time! We saw and felt celtic ambience! At night we spend a lot of time sitting and talking in the celtic pubs to taste the different sorts of rum. With Kathi I really had good conversations and I enjoyed spending time with her. We talked a lot and we found a lot of things to think about. She is a great companion!



FR:Le samedi nous sommes rentrés à Nantes pour rencontre l'autre groupe qui est resté à Nantes... Au début du voyage en Bretagne je n'ai pas chercher du couchsurfing parce que j'ai pensé qu'on serait trop nombreux... Ce n'était pas le cas!!!!! Une situation pas très cool! C'était obligatoire alors de rester dans un hotel, auberge de jeunesse ou dans les rues de Nantes. Par rapport des prix imenses j'ai pris la décision de rester dans les rue pour attender le train à 9h le landemain... Mais on a fait connaissance avec des francais qui nous ont amené dans une boite super sympa! Merci pour ca! A partir de 4h j'étais tout seul après les autres sont rentrés dans l'auberge. Après une nuit très frois mais rigolot je suis bien rentré à Brioude le dimanche.

ENG: On saturday we went back to Nantes to meet the others... In the beginning of our journey I didn't search for couchsurfing because I thought we'll be to many people...That wasn't the case!!! Not very cool situation! It was obligatory for me to pay a hostel, a youth hostel or to stay in the streets. I chose the streets because of the unbelievable high prices to wait for the train which left at 9 o'clock in the morning... But we met some french people with whom we went to very a nice alternative club! "Le lieu unique"! Thank you for that! At 4 o'clock I was on my own to spend a quite cold night in the streets of Nantes. A bit tired I went back to Brioude on sunday! Great weekend:)
